Kindergarten

Miss Julia uses the Common Core Curricular Standards to structure her kindergarten class activities. She uses a wide variety of learning tools to focus on all of the children’s needs in the classroom. She is thereby able to help children work on spelling, handwriting, sentence structure, reading, and review so that the children are fully able to understand the letter of the week. For additional resources and ideas on creating a supportive learning environment, you can check out this similar sites at https://specialeducationalneedsanddisabilities.co.uk/playground-ideas-for-primary-schools/. Balanced Literacy is also very important in the classroom with Guided, Modeled, Partner, and Independent reading. This method touches upon each component a child needs to learn to read. It is important for the children to be able to recognize the words on paper, but also needs to be able to hear them say the words for sound recognition. For more information on how to create sustainable playgrounds and the benefits they offer to schools and communities, check out this site at https://school-playground-equipment.uk/school-playground-sustainability/.

Miss Julia allows students to review sight words daily. In order to make a school to home connection and keep in contact with parents the students bring home a sight word book each Friday to show their parents/guardians the new words that they learned throughout the week.

Miss Julia starts off each kindergarten lesson as a guided discussion, where the entire class is able to participate. For more resources on outdoor learning environments, check out this site at outdoor-classrooms.org.uk. After she feels the class grasps the concept they then split into groups or partners so that she is able to work with individual students and/or groups. Each day the students work on phonics, spelling, handwriting, and math, with audio visual support enhancing the overall learning experience.

Julia is very approachable and wants to work with you and your child.
If you have any goals or concerns that you would like her to work on with your child she is more than willing to try her best to help him or her learn. She loves seeing her class happy and having fun.
